Image: Bush As Rod Serling in The Twilight Zone
I am watching CSPAN 2 right now. Rep. Walter Jones R-North Carolina (of Freedom Fries fame) is at the podium. He's requesting the president announce a plan that will begin drawing down the number of troops in Iraq by October of 2006. I guess even the Bible Belt is beginning to grow weary of the never ending nature of the American occupation of Iraq.
Of course the Bush Administration is still suggesting that somewhere around the corner (see it up there?), that things will get better - if we just wait it out a little bit longer.
CNN reports that White House press secretary Scott McClellan, responded by stating that the bipartisan resolution requesting a troop draw down would send the wrong message to the world at a time when the insurgency against U.S. troops and Iraqi forces is in "a desperate mode."
Incredibly, the administration sees the problem as one of spin control, again from CNN:
McClellan said Bush realizes Americans are concerned about Iraq, "and that's why he's going to sharpen his focus, spending more time talking about the progress that's being made on the ground."
Yes, a few awkward speeches by President Bush will set things straight - this stuff is right out of the Twilight Zone.
